Polycarbonate is one of the multi-purpose synthetic polymers, which found it's broad application in various branches of industry. Such a broad sphere of polycarbonate application is conditioned, first of all, by its really unique properties: transparency, impact strength, plasticity, temperature and chemical stability, durability, simple processing and mounting, low weight and safe use.

 

Despite its strength, polycarbonate is destroyed under the influence of UV, that's when choosing polycarbonate for translucent structures installation special attention should be paid to presence of a high-quality UV-protection layer applied by co-extrusion from one of both sides of a sheet. Without such a protection polycarbonate operation life decrease by several times. While installing polycarbonate sheets with one-sided UV-protection it's necessary to pay attention to UV layer location. It should be on the outside.

 

Such polycarbonate varieties are used: structural polycarbonate (honeycomb polycarbonate), monolithic polycarbonate, corrugated polycarbonate. Available in various thicknesses and various colors.

 

Monolithic polycarbonate is the strongest of all translucent materials, which preserves its strength both at low winter temperatures and high summer temperatures.monolytn_1Apart from its strength monolithic polycarbonate is characterized by a number of advantages:

  • excellent translucence and light transmission;
  • impact resistance;
  • plasticity, which makes it possible to create complex nonlinear forms.

Sheet thickness –  2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 19 mm, etc. Various color options are available.

 

Main areas of monolithic polycarbonate application:

1) protective glazing, protective screens

2) translucent noise barriers

3) skylights

4) roofs of buildings and passages, etc.

 

Honeycomb polycarbonate has honeycomb structure in cross-section. The honeycomb polycarbonate is made of two, three or more layers of walls connected by a large number of partitions (stiffening ribs), creating squares, triangles or cross-structures. The space between partitions is filled with air, which ensures high thermal and sound insulating properties. the stiffening ribs provide for high structural strength.

  • high impact resistance — having low weight honeycomb polycarbonate is 200 times stronger than glass and 8 times stronger than acrylic plastics and PVC;
  • extraordinary lightness, low specific gravity. Honeycomb polycarbonate weights 16 times less than glass and 3 times less than acrylic of the same thickness;
  • good translucence (transmits up to 90% of light and evenly diffuses it. Honeycomb polycarbonate can hold back harmful UV);
  • excellent weather resistance, is suitable for application within the temperature range from -40ºС to +120ºС;
  • high chemical stability;
  • fire resistance (the material is inflame-resistant and self-extinguishing);
  • it can be bent without preliminary processing, which makes it possible to glaze complex structures.

Honeycomb polycarbonate can have one, two, three or more layers of walls and can be reinforced. The sheets thickness can be 4, 6, 8, 10, 16, 20, 25 mm, etc. Honeycomb polycarbonate is available in different colors.

 

Honeycomb polycarbonate is one of the most widely used plastics in construction. It's successfully used for:

1) translucent roofs of buildings intended for various applications;

2) roofs, walls and stained glass;

3) arch structures, structural additions, sheds;

4) skylight domes;

5) internal noise barriers, interior doors, balconies, etc.
